Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino announced that Yonkers resident Jerry Colon has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison stemming to a car break-in on South Broadway in December 2016.
Colon was found guilty by a jury on Friday, Feb. 23 of individual counts of first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
According to Scarpino, at approximately 2 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2016, Colon broke into his victim’s vehicle in a South Broadway parking lot. His victim, who was walking toward his vehicle at the time of the break-in, saw Colon still in his Chevy Suburban and demanded he return an iPad and GPS device that had been taken from the truck.
Once approached, Scarpino said that Colon pulled out a box cutter, which he wildly swung in an attempt to keep the stolen property. Despite being swung out, the victim was able to overcome Colon, holding him down until police arrived to arrest him. The electronic devices and the box cutter was recovered at the scene.
Colon was arrested at the scene and indicted in February last year, before being found guilty last month.
